Olive Tree Pediatric Dentistry
Infants are generally recommended to visit a pediatric dentist by the age of one or within six months of their first tooth erupting. Your child’s first visit to the pediatric dentist is an important milestone and at Olive Tree Pediatric Dentistry we make it educational and memorable.
During your child’s first dental visit we will discuss infant feeding practices, baby bottle tooth decay, teething, daily oral hygiene/cleaning, finger-sucking habits, and pacifier habits. We provide parents with information and advice that helps them establish healthy habits for their child from the start.
At Olive Tree Pediatric Dentistry, our experienced pediatric dentist will take care of all of your child’s dental care needs from infancy to adolescence. Dr. Maidelys Oliva is a Board-Certified pediatric dentist dedicated to providing exceptional care in a child-centered and compassionate way. She brings advanced professional expertise to her field. If you are looking for the right pediatric dentist in Miami Lakes, FL, choose Olive Tree Pediatric Dentistry.
Knowing what is involved in your child’s first dental visit and how to prepare for it can make a significant difference. Luckily, you can help your child prepare for their dental visit at home. A couple of weeks before their dental visit read them kid friendly dental books and allow them to play with age appropriate dental toys. This will help them feel more comfortable in the dental office.
We recommend always scheduling a morning appointment, as young children are generally most cooperative during this time. It is also helpful to complete the new patient paperwork ahead of time and to let the pediatric dentist know any questions or concerns about the visit in advance. If you are feeling anxious remember to avoid showing it to your young child as children tend to pick up on their parents’ anxieties. Our team works diligently to make the introduction to dental care as smooth and positive as possible for both you and your child.
You should expect the first dental visit to be short, fun and very informative. During the examination, we will check existing and erupting teeth, evaluate the bite, gum, jaw, and oral tissues. We will also gently clean the teeth and remove any present plaque, stains and tartar. If desired, we will also apply fluoride varnish to help prevent childhood caries.
We will also talk about important oral health care topics like prevention of cavities, proper oral hygiene practices, developmental milestones, teething, pacifiers, zippy cups, habits and nutrition. At the end of the visit, you’ll be encouraged to schedule your child’s next dental checkup in six months. This will help your child maintain good oral health and reduce dental anxiety.
Generally, we don’t take dental X-rays on first dental visits unless absolutely necessary. If decay is suspected or if parents reports history of dental trauma we may suggest X-rays. Our office is equipped with digital X-rays, which use minimal radiation. At Olive Tree Pediatric Dentistry you will not have to worry about your child’s anxiousness, Dr. Oliva and her team have a special approach to making children feel relaxed by providing a highly personalized, kid-friendly atmosphere.
